LONDON – Tuesday, October 4, 2011: The exodus of former Walkers and Maples and Calder partners to burgeoning boutique law firm Thorp Alberga continues.
Linda Martin, Anne Todd and Matthew Stocker, have joined five of their former colleagues to practice Cayman Islands and BVI law from their offices in the Cayman Islands and Hong Kong.
Recently recognised in the Asia Hot 100 Law Firms, Thorp Alberga now comprises some eight former Maples and Walkers partners.
Thorp Alberga is a boutique offshore law firm providing Cayman Islands and BVI legal and structuring advice for all types of offshore transactions including asset finance, capital markets, private equity, hedge funds, litigation, general corporate and commercial and insolvency.
Linda Martin was previously head of the London and Dubai Finance and Corporate Groups at Walkers as well as a partner with Maples and Calder She also worked for Clifford Chance in London and New York.
Anne Todd, formerly with Maples and Calder in London, moved to Walkers in The Cayman Islands in 2004. She became a partner in 2008 and was Head of Asset Finance. She was also involved in developing the Latin America Finance practice.
Matthew Stocker, who will be based in Thorp Alberga’s Hong Kong office was previously a partner at Maples and Calder in Cayman and Hong Kong and most recently a partner at Appleby in Hong Kong. He also worked with Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer in London and Rome.
The Cayman Islands office is headed up by Michael L. Alberga, a former President of the Cayman Islands Law Society. Over the past 30 years he has developed a specialist regulatory and litigation practice, including licensing, regulation and dispute resolution in relation to corporate commercial law, real estate, banking, mutual funds, partnership, government relations, labour law and aircraft and shipping.
Announcing the appointment of the three new partners, Michael Alberga said, “We are a successful boutique practice with all the flexibility and personal approach that brings and these attributes are enhanced by the heavyweight experience of our partners.”
